5. Specialization

5.1. An assistant train composer is charged one rank below the train composer under whose supervision he works.

Let's talk today about the necessary and demanded profession, which does not often fall into our field of vision. Train compiler - who is it, what does it do, what is its functionality? Let's try to consider the main features and nuances of the activity in this position.

There is such a job - a compiler of trains

If we turn to the official terminology, then its task is to form and disband the rolling stock of the train, that is, to rearrange the cars in the right order. Of course, this occupation requires certain specific knowledge, that is, this profession can be learned, like any other.

Such work belongs to the category of difficult and very responsible. The main task of the specialist compiler is the timely dispatch of the composition. He is responsible for the correct completion of the train, its integrity, for the safety of movement and the accuracy of maneuvers. Each of the trains must be checked in time, the wagons must be detached and secured.

Main functionality

Let's look at the main responsibilities of a train compiler. This position involves a lot of functions - after all, it is it that ultimately determines the effectiveness of railway traffic. The main duties of a specialist are to translate non-centralized switches, to protect the wagons of the train with brake shoes in time, to take care of the safety and security of each train, to attach and unhitch the wagons, to manage the maneuvers of the locomotive.

The amount of work depends on the size of the station where the train compiler works, as well as the region of its location.

What exactly is he doing?

How does a train maker's day start? Every morning, workers are gathered for a special planning meeting, where they all receive safety briefings. Then everyone is given strict accounting inventory and work tasks are set in the form of the arrangement of wagons in a certain order.

Further activities to be carried out during the working day are agreed with the station duty officer. The day-to-day duties of a train maker consist of maintenance and inspection of wagons, as well as uncoupling and uncoupling. Any of his actions must be coordinated with the person on duty with the help of a walkie-talkie.

As you can see, with so much work, you definitely don’t get bored. Servicing the wagons, preparing the trains for dispatch, he must also fill out the register on time and without errors and check the wagons he receives.

All these activities require mandatory personal presence. The instruction of the compiler of trains assumes his duty under the control of the head of the station. But at the same time, the level of personal responsibility in this profession is very, very high.

Having accepted the shift, the train compiler without fail notes the condition and location of each car, the safety of special seals and the presence of inventory. Only after fulfilling his official functions to the full extent - putting the cars in their places, checking the composition, etc., he has the right to hand over the duty.

Personnel make a big difference...

What personal qualities are required for someone who wants to take such a position? Any profession requires the presence of certain character traits. What exactly should be inherent in the composer of trains? Of course, first of all - a conscientious attitude to business, accuracy and responsibility.

Other important traits that you cannot do without in such a job are stress resistance and the ability to get along with people. At times, guidance is required from lower-ranking personnel or from those assigned as assistants. Calmness and the ability to keep cool in any situation are qualities that are in demand in any profession, but in conditions railway with its complex rhythm and many stressors, these benefits are of particular relevance.

Let's go to study

How is the profession "train engineer" acquired? With the seeming simplicity of the official duties of a person from the street, they will not be hired for such work. Relevant education is required. So, where can you learn this interesting specialty?

They teach it in technical schools or colleges, and you can enter there after the 9th grade. The program of the training course of the future compiler is devoted primarily to the issues of railway traffic safety and consideration of all the smallest technical nuances in this area. A significant place is given to the development of how and in what circumstances special signals are used - manual and sound.

What else will they teach you?

A future Russian Railways train designer is learning how to control the movement of a locomotive. He must know the rules for using brake shoes, be able to work with portable radios and learn all the features of handling them. A very important point - correct technique fastening on the rails of trains.

Much attention in the course program is given to the issues of loading and unloading, as well as ensuring the integrity and safety of the transported cargo. Lectures to the future student will be given on such subjects as labor protection, arrangement and maintenance of freight cars, life safety.

About skill levels

This job - the compiler of trains - like most similar ones, assumes the existence of qualification categories of 4. Those who have the lowest (third) category may not work on every railway. Those that have the status of general use are still closed to such workers. The area of the field of activity of a novice specialist should be distinguished by not too heavy traffic.

Those with the fourth category are already allowed to work on the same types of railway transport, but already in regions with a higher flow intensity, and therefore the complexity of the work increases markedly.

When qualifications rise

Specialists with the fifth category are allowed to service public railway transport, but such stations should be located in one of the low-activity areas, similar to the third category option.

The highest category - the sixth - implies admission to the most complex work. Its owner is allowed to the position of a train compiler in any area, even the most difficult and highly intensive in terms of traffic, and can work with public transport.

Highly qualified workers may be entrusted with the leadership of employees with a lower rank, but in general it all depends on the region where the station is located and its status.

Rights and warranties

But what about the rights of those working in such a position? Of course, they also exist. The priority of these for the compiler of trains is the right to request from the management everything that is necessary for work. Such equipment includes a set of a signal light with a yellow flag, a walkie-talkie, a portable radio station and, of course, a special working uniform. The list can be replenished with other accessories. If these items of equipment were not issued, the employee has the right to complain about non-compliance with labor protection standards.

Other guaranteed rights of an employee include the possibility of timely and prompt acceptance and delivery of duty. The hours of work of a specialist must fit into the norm of working hours, according to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.

About cons

What are the disadvantages of this profession? The main problem of such a position, of course, is high level responsibility. This is a very, very difficult job, and the higher the rank of the employee, the higher the difficulty. At the same time, with the improvement of qualifications, the professional experience, which makes it possible to consider duties not so exhausting.

Another disadvantage is a large amount of hard physical labor. This is a truly masculine profession. Often you have to work literally with your own hands. And of course shift work with exits at night cannot but affect the state of health and general well-being.

Train Composer: Salary and more

But not everything is so scary, because the shortcomings of any profession are compensated by its merits. What are the advantages in this case? As you know, one of the most important characteristics of any job is the level of its payment, which in this case is not to be complained about. For hard, physically exhausting work, a train compiler can get really good money.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide specific figures here. They can vary significantly depending on the station, its area of location, as well as qualification category working. But on average, such a specialist receives at least 18 thousand rubles a month.

Another bonus is that this profession is always in demand on the labor market. Qualified specialists who are able to establish a well-organized work of the railway station are not so common. Such people will always find themselves workplace. Often, representatives of this profession "stick with their soul" to their favorite business and for many years work at the same station in a well-knit team of like-minded people, which also cannot but be attributed to its positive aspects.

shunting work

Types of maneuvers:

  • 1. According to the degree of complexity: simple, complex;
  • 2. By nature: sorting, permutation, grouping, special;
  • 3. By purpose: disbanding, forming, hitching, uncoupling, feeding, cleaning.

Maneuvers on hoods are performed in two ways:

  • 1) Restraint: the diesel locomotive drives onto the track for the train and pulls it onto the exhaust track; the operator moves the arrows to the path where the last group of wagons should follow; the driver, on the signals of the compiler and the operator, upsets the train on the appropriate path to a complete stop; the compiler unhooks the last group of cars, fixes it and gives the driver a signal to pull the train to the hood.
  • 2) By isolated pushes: a fuel locomotive drives the train or part of it onto the track and pulls it out to the exhaust; the compiler, being on the hood at the tail of the shunting train, unhooks the extreme group of cars; the operator prepares the route of the cut to the track; the driver, at the signal of the compiler and operator, accelerates the train towards the park and, before reaching the dividing arrow, brakes sharply, resulting in a push. The detached group by inertia is sent to the path of the park.

Auto brake test:

1. When the brakes are fully tested, the technical condition of the brake equipment of all cars is checked.

Full testing of auto brakes is carried out from a stationary compressor unit or locomotive. Full testing of automatic brakes in trains is carried out:

  • - at the formation stations before the departure of the train;
