There is a lot of literature on the Internet on this subject, but I did not find a clear and understandable instruction. Therefore, I offer my instructions, compiled according to an accessible and simple algorithm.

1. What is a resume and what is it for?

If you still do not quite understand what a resume is, I propose to give it a definition:

Summary- this brief self-presentation in writing of your professional skills, achievements and personal qualities that you plan to successfully implement in your future job in order to receive compensation for them (for example, in the form of money or other type of compensation)

I myself in the past had to write a resume when applying for a job. Indeed, without this, no employer will even know about you and your professional skills.

I remember when I sat down to write my resume for the first time, it took me a lot of time to competently compose it and arrange it according to all standards. And since I like to understand everything thoroughly, I also studied the issue of its correct spelling very deeply. For this, I spoke with professional specialists on personnel and studied a large number of articles on the topic.

Now I know how to write a resume correctly and I will gladly share it with you.

I share with you samples of my resumes, which I wrote personally for myself:

(you can download them for free)

Thanks to my ability to write professional resumes I have never had difficulty getting a job. So my knowledge is reinforced practical experience and are not dry academic theory.

So what is the secret to writing a good resume? Read about it below.

2. How to write a resume - 10 easy steps

Before moving on to the steps, I want you to remember 3 main rules for successful resume writing:

Rule number 1. Write the truth, but not the whole

Focus on your strengths and don't talk too much about your weaknesses. You will be asked about them at the interview, be prepared for this.

Rule number 2. Stick to a clear structure

The summary is written on 1-2 sheets, no more. Therefore, try to briefly and succinctly state in it all necessary information, even if there is a lot of it.

Take care of the accurate formatting of the resume text, its structured presentation. Since no one is pleased to read abracadabra.

Rule number 3. Be optimistic and cheerful

Positive people attract success. In your case, a new job.

So, let's move on to the structure of the resume.

Step 1. Resume Title

Here you must write the word "Summary" itself and indicate to whom it is drawn up.

All this is written in one line.

For example: CV Ivanov Ivan Ivanovich

Then your potential employer will immediately understand who owns the resume. For example, you have previously called a company you are interested in in order to find out if they still have this vacancy open. You were given a positive response and offered to send a resume.

At the end of the first step, your resume will look like this:

Step 2. Purpose of the resume

It must be remembered that your resume must have a purpose. Formulate it correctly in the following way(in phrase):

The purpose of the resume is to apply for the position of an accountant

Since at this moment you are called that - an applicant, that is, a person, job seeker, potentially claiming it.

At the end of the second step, your resume will look like this:

Step 3. Applicant and his data

At this point, you must write the following:

  • date of birth;
  • the address;
  • contact number;
  • e-mail;
  • marital status.

At the end of the third step, your resume should look like this:

Step 4. Education

If you have several formations, then write them in order.

For example:

Moscow State University, 2005-2010,

Speciality: accountant (bachelor)

Moscow State University, 2007-2013,

Speciality: translator in the field of professional communication (bachelor)

At this stage, your resume should look like this:

Step 5. Experience

Please note that the “work experience” column is written in the resume starting from the most recent place of your work, if it is not the only one, and starting from the period spent in this position.

For example:

Position: chief accountant's assistant;

Position: accountant

So we have already written half of the summary, it should look like this:

Step 6. Job Responsibilities

This item in the resume is not always required if the vacancy you are applying for is quite common, and you held a similar position for previous place work.

Sometimes this item can be included in the previous one by writing your own official duties immediately after the post.

Step 7. Achievements in previous jobs

The item "Achievements" is one of the most important in the resume! It is much more important than education and even work experience.

Your potential employer wants to know exactly what he will pay you for wages. Therefore, it is very important to mention when writing a resume about all significant achievements in previous jobs. At the same time, please note that it is correct to write in words that are the so-called "markers" for personnel officers who are considering your resume.

For example, it is correct to write:

  • increased sales volumes by 30 percent in 6 months;
  • developed and introduced new technology into production;
  • shortened equipment maintenance costs by 40%.

Wrong to write:

  • worked to increase sales;
  • took part in a project to create a new technology;
  • reduced equipment costs.

As you can see, it is also important to write specific numbers, as they very clearly reflect the essence of your achievements.

Now your resume looks like this:

Step 8. Additional Information

Here you need to describe your strengths, professional knowledge and skills that will directly help you to better and better perform the tasks assigned to you at a new job.

Usually they write the following:

  1. Knowledge of computers and specialized software. This is relevant for office workers and employees whose direct work is related to the PC. For example, for designers, accountants, programmers, office managers.
  2. Proficiency in foreign languages. If your future job involves reading, translating or communicating in a foreign language and you speak it to a certain extent, be sure to write about it. For example: English spoken.
  3. Having a car and driving skills. If your work involves business trips and you often have to drive a car, for example, working as a sales representative, then you should indicate the presence of your car, as well as the category of driver's license and experience.

Thus, in additional information, along with computer proficiency and a foreign language, write: there is a personal car, category B, 5 years of experience.

Step 9. Personal qualities

There is no need to describe too many qualities here, especially if they do not apply to your future work. You can be a kind and sympathetic person who loves children and respects your friends, but a potential employer will not be interested in reading about your "cordiality" and a rich inner world.

For example, if you are applying for the position of an accountant, then it would be good to write here: composure, attentiveness, punctuality, efficiency, mathematical mindset, ability to analyze.

If you are applying for a more creative profession, say a designer or creator, then you should indicate here: developed creative imagination, sense of style, non-standard view of the problem, healthy perfectionism.

It will be great if you mention your full name at the end of your resume. and positions of your former managers, as well as indicate their contact numbers so that your potential employer or his representative can verify your professionalism by receiving feedback about you from your former direct supervisors.

Even if your potential employer does not call your former supervisors, the mere fact of having contacts for recommendations will significantly increase his confidence in you.

At the very end of the resume, you must indicate when you are ready to start working, here you can also indicate the desired level of remuneration.

The final look of your resume:

Congratulations! Your resume is 100% ready!

Finally, here are a few resume samples that you can slightly correct and immediately use to send to your potential employer.

Every day, recruiters and HRs look at a huge number of resumes, so they have a certain image of the ideal candidate for each position. And the more the applicant matches this image, the higher his chances of getting a job in a brand-name company. The main requirement for applicants for the position of a middle manager is the experience of managing people.

"Ideal Candidate"

The ideal candidate for the position of a middle manager is a specialist who has built his career consistently, best in one or related industries, and who has experience in a brand-name company. The total length of his work must be at least 5 years, of which 2 years he must hold a managerial position. It is simply necessary for him higher education and business education is also desirable.

In Russia, for some reason, a person can be called a manager without having subordinates.

Achievements in the summary should definitely be highlighted in a separate column. When describing previous experience, the applicant needs to focus on the results achieved. The number of completed projects is regarded as an achievement more often in specific industries, such as construction. It is also important for a marketing manager to talk about the projects in which he took part. This will show the scale of the work done by him and the “filling” of his position, because in different companies in the same positions, employees sometimes have different responsibilities.

Desired position (resume goal)

To introduce yourself simply as a manager means to say nothing about yourself. In Russia, for some reason, a person can be called a manager without having subordinates. Therefore, the question arises by itself: “Who and what does he manage then?” A manager must have people under his command!

In addition, if there is no specific desired position in the resume, this means that the person himself does not know what he wants to do in the future and what kind of work he needs. Companies have a standard departmental structure. The middle manager can be the head of both the logistics department and the sales and marketing department, and financial department. True, sometimes department managers are already top management.

Education

The first education, even if it is non-core, must be indicated. Firstly, to comply with the chronological principle in the resume, and secondly, as evidence that the person consciously followed the path of professional and personal development to improve their skills. The presence of a second education will be a good sign for both the recruiter and the company, because it is an indicator of the applicant's interest in professional growth.

Additional education it makes sense to indicate only when it refers to either the current position or the desired position.

It is necessary to indicate the received specialization. This information will take only a couple of lines in the resume, but it will definitely not be superfluous. But the name of the faculty can be omitted.

The applicant should not write that he completed the macrame circle in the 10th grade of the school. Additional education makes sense to indicate only when it refers either to the current position or to the desired position. In this case, it will show that the candidate is interested in developing his career.

work experience

It's no secret that the first time a resume is read diagonally and only the main points are pulled out. “Work experience” is one of the key sections, so the information here should be concise and concise.

It is recommended to describe in detail the work experience for the last 10 years. However, I prefer that the candidate state it in full. This is due to the fact that Antal International many foreign clients who want to see the full picture of professional growth, it is not customary for them to watch an excerpt from a working biography. The last 10 years of work should be described in the most detail, and when talking about earlier experience, it is enough to indicate the years, the name of the company and the position held by the applicant. All this will not take up much space.

The resume should show how the manager grew up in the company. It is great that the candidate has worked in the same organization for a long time, this indicates his loyalty and ability to communicate with people, because it is not easy to work in the same team for many years. For example, the process of professional growth will be clearly demonstrated by the candidate who came as an assistant to the procurement department, then became a manager, then the head of the department, moved to the position of head commercial department or became responsible for the sales block. And, of course, it is not the best option if the applicant indicates that he has worked for 8 years as a support manager in the sales department.

The market is open to everyone, but it is quite difficult for a candidate from an organization known only in narrow circles to get into a brand-name company, because recruiters and employers, first of all, pay attention to the brand. In such a situation, the applicant should rely more on his own strength, build a job search strategy in a different way. It is important that he presents himself correctly, and this can only be done at the interview stage. Headhunters hunt for qualified employees of brand-name companies, and specialists from organizations known only in narrow circles must promote themselves.

Headhunters hunt for qualified employees of brand-name companies, and specialists from organizations known only in narrow circles must promote themselves.

If a candidate does not have managerial experience, but he wants to take the position of a manager, he will have to justify his career ambitions. This is the task of an oral presentation at a meeting with the employer, since, unfortunately, such information cannot be reflected in the resume. It is clear that in this situation a person should not and cannot immediately claim leadership of a department of 10 people. At first, most likely, we will talk about a small team.

In Russia, it is not very common to provide written recommendations, but they will not be superfluous. True, more often, if they are requested, then verbally. I would not advise in the resume to indicate the coordinates of people (director or partners) who are ready to give a characterization, because they may not be called at the most opportune moment. It is better to provide their phones already at the second or third stage of negotiations.

If we are talking about a hired middle manager, then the director of the company should give him a description. If the applicant has his own business or he is a top manager of a Russian “non-branded” company, it is advisable for him to provide recommendations from Western partners with whom the candidate has collaborated. The coordinates of colleagues are most often not indicated. If you need more advice, you can ask your line manager for help.

Additional Information

It is better for an applicant for the position of a middle manager not to mention anything about personal characteristics at all. Such information is indicated by yesterday's students, since they still cannot boast of either solid work experience or high level competencies. Middle managers should, first of all, talk about their professionalism, about what they can and want to do. Moreover, in the section Additional Information» no need to repeat the description of functional duties at previous jobs. The wording here should be more concise and capacious, for example, “building a team from scratch” or “development of a business from scratch”.

Age

It’s convenient for me if the age of a potential candidate is indicated on the resume: I don’t have to waste time to find out how much the applicant is this moment years. Even when it does not contain a date of birth, it is not difficult to determine it. If the resume is interesting, but there is no age indicated, recruiters look at the date of graduation.

Middle managers should, first of all, talk about their professionalism, about what they can and want to do.

I can say that there are no strict age limits. For example, the position description states that a manager under 45 is required, but this does not mean that a 46-year-old applicant will not be considered. True, if he is 60, recruiters most likely will not be able to submit his resume to a client. However, even in this case, everything depends on the specialist himself, if he can convince the employer that he will be able to complete the tasks - why not?

Income level

As for salary expectations, candidates for managerial positions, as a rule, are roughly familiar with the situation on the labor market and can adequately assess their value. And if a manager works in a brand-name company, then he is often called by headhunters who keep him up to date with market events.

The level of income in the resume is not indicated. Compensation is a subject for negotiations. Its size is determined by the manager's ability to present and "sell" himself. Due to today's huge need for experienced employees by employers, companies, as a rule, are ready to offer a certain salary range to a qualified manager.

Outcome

When compiling a resume, it should be taken into account that in similar positions in organizations of different scale, profile and structure, there are usually different functional responsibilities and, accordingly, the requirements for candidates. If a person works in the position of Area Sales Manager in an FMCG company and wants to move to the position of Regional Manager - take a step forward, it is clear that his previous experience will speak for itself, you won’t have to invent anything. But, if the applicant wants to change the field of activity and he does not have enough similar work experience, he needs to pay more attention to his competencies. For example, we have just been approached by a candidate who wants to move from an average managerial position to a top one, for this we “highlight” his MBA degree.

Despite the fact that a lot has already been written about the correct preparation of a resume, still a large number of applicants regularly ask themselves the question “How to write a resume?”. What to write about? And what is better to be silent about? Is it possible to embellish a resume a little? Or is it not worth doing?

To find answers to these questions, let's look at the 7 main rules for writing a resume that will help attract the attention of an employer.

Also below you will find interesting video, where you can hear some more useful tips that will come in handy when preparing your resume.

Clearly state your desired position

Since the employer is looking for an employee for a very specific position, the cover letter to your resume should clearly indicate which vacancy you are applying for. If the position of a technical supervision engineer is indicated in the job advertisement, then you should not write - a specialist in the VET department, an employee of an engineering and technical specialty, etc. So directly and write - a resume for the vacancy of a technical supervision engineer.

The employer has no interest in solving puzzles and figuring out where to attach you if you indicate as the desired positions instead of a specific vacancy desired position vague, e.g. "manager", "specialist", "engineer", etc.

Do not include several different positions in one resume

Even if, due to your life experience and professional experience, you feel that you could cope with work in various positions - from a mechanic to a chief engineer, then you should not focus on a broad profile.

The employer needs a specific specialist for a specific job, and he considers only those skills and abilities that will allow job seekers to apply for this well-defined job.

If you see that the employer has posted several vacancies, then it is better to send an adjusted resume for each of them.

Be clear about your desired salary

It makes no sense to play hide and seek with the employer and try to get around this issue if you do not want your resume to go straight to the trash as soon as you read it.

Consider in advance whether you are willing to work for the salary offered. If the employer does not indicate the amount of remuneration and writes “by agreement” in the “Earnings” column, then you should definitely understand what salary you will apply for.

Even if you need a job right now, you need to understand that attempts to ask for a raise in salary will not always be successful and it is quite possible that you will have to be content with the specified amount for a long time.

Stick to business style

Despite the fact that the employer is also a person and, most likely, nothing human is alien to him, you should still not try to stand out from the ranks of other applicants by writing your resume in an unusual style, diluting it with jokes, abstract notes or some obscure expressions .

Leave it for personal communication with your friends and like-minded people. And in the letter to the employer, it is enough to clearly indicate:

  • the position you are applying for;
  • experience in this position;
  • your achievements at the previous place of work;
  • education;
  • personal qualities;
  • a small amount of additional information (driver's license, possession of special programs, etc.).

Should not be detailed personal information and some details that are not relevant to the case. The resume should be concise.

It is better to pay more attention to the merits that will help you qualify for this particular position. Among the main advantages will be experience in a similar position, seniority in the specialty.

Should I link to my social media profile?

IN Lately you can see in job postings such requirements as specifying a link to a profile on a social network. Should I show my employer my page on Vkontakte or Odnoklassniki?

Of course, it is better to have a profile in a popular social network. Today, this is already quite a common phenomenon, and a person who does not have such a page is perceived a little strange, it may seem that he is hiding something from prying eyes.

Therefore, you should be prepared for the fact that you have to give a link to your page. But this also imposes some restrictions on the content that you publish on your page. You should not flaunt something that may not characterize you from the best side - photos of friendly drinking parties, as well as intimate and indecent photos, as well as reposts of messages from other network users.

If you really want to share absolutely any photos and publications with your friends, then at least set the viewing privacy settings by assigning access to a certain part of the content only to your friends or individual users.

Don't give false information

Many mistakenly believe that when looking for a job, as in a war, all means are good, the main thing is to get through to the desired position by any means, and then maybe you will be able to cope.

This is a fundamentally wrong approach that will bring you nothing but a negative attitude from employers.

If you have not completed your education, you should not write that you have a diploma that you have lost and therefore cannot show. Did you study in educational institution or not is very easy to check.

It makes no sense to indicate that you are fluent in programs, for example, 1C, Excel, Photoshop or any other, if you do not have experience in these programs. Don't expect your employer to sympathize with you and teach you how to use these software tools. If you do not know how to use them, then writing about them is worth nothing.

The same applies to work experience, projects you have been involved in, and any other skills that may be critical when considering applicants.

Add a photo to your resume

Recently, more and more often in job postings, you can see the postscript: "CVs with a photo are considered first."

Therefore, make sure that the file that you send to a potential employer includes your photo.

You should not attach a full-length photo with the size of A4. A small (2x3 cm) photo inserted directly into a Word document with your resume will be enough. If you are “on you” with a computer and don’t know how to add a photo yourself, ask someone you know who is more fluent with a computer to do it. As a result, your resume should look something like this:

The photo must have the latest date taken. A 45-year-old applicant (or applicant) should not insert a 20-year-old photo just because you like how young you look there and how well you turned out in general. In the end, you are not selected for the casting of photo models.
