The Football Manager (once known as Championship Manager) series from Sports Interactive is the number one sports management game. It's a rare installment in this yearly game series that doesn't make it into Steam's top games by player count, and while (according to the official website) it's not teeming with new features, the existing ones are polished to the point that this season's game is one of the best in the series' illustrious fourteen-year career. .
Like the waves of players and staff that come and go every year, mods come and go with every new FM episode. This list has collected all the best that is available now for the 2016/17 series - but we will update this list as the season develops.
How to install mods for Football Manager 2017
A huge number of mods for Football Manager are located on fan sites such as FM-Space.com and Passion4FM.com, which contain step by step instructions for self installation. However, sometimes this process can be quite complicated and confusing. Since most of the mods featured here are on the Steam Workshop, all you have to do is subscribe and play. Those mods that are not featured in the Steam Workshop are highlighted separately.
Football Manager 2017 contains a huge amount of information about teams, players, behind-the-scenes staff, tournaments, salaries, but still does not use the names of the so-called "big" teams, which makes the seemingly extensive encyclopedia a little smaller. All this is understandable given the scale of world football, but Passion4FM's Real Names Fix mod can guarantee that your favorite, not even widely known outsider, will contain authentic player names and compete with real clubs in real competitions. This user database also influences popular tournaments in terms of their sponsorship deals.
Likewise, FM-Space and Fabrizio creations Logos and Kits mods add authentic club and country badges and logos, as well as authentic kits with their respective sponsors and manufacturers. Both of these mods can be found on FM-Space.com and follow the installation instructions there. Also, check out FM-Space's Player Faces and Skins mods to add even more realism to the game.
Like the mods above, the International Team Competition Histories mod adds credibility by introducing "full" stories for a number of tournaments and countries. Based on Wikipedia and the RSSSF archive, mod creator cfuller763 has added details of all World Cup and Continental Super Cup qualifiers and finals, as well as in-game tournaments such as the Confederations Cup. For three years now, this Football Manager mod has been helping to fix bugs and inaccuracies regarding national teams around the world.
“For the second ITCH release, I completely removed all national team histories from the database and inserted my data for every country from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe,” cfuller763 says on the mod page. "This means that my file will be compatible with the original FM17 database as well as future updates."
So you've sorted out your kits, logos, player names and competitions, now it's time to get some players. But who exactly? I certainly believe that it is very tempting to blow your entire budget (and your house, car and kids) to acquire Ronaldo and Messi, as anyone familiar with Football Manager knows that young talent is the key to long-term success. But keep in mind that it may not be long before today's heroes retire.
Launch the Wonderkids and Best Young Talents mods from Passion4FM that will give you full list top players under the age of 21 and under 18, respectively. Looking for the next Neymar or the next Frank Lampard? Make your choice here. These mods are perfectly compatible with Passion4FM's Backroom Staff filter and BigDaddy's Fewer Injuries. The first allows you to assemble the best technical team to train your young players, the second saves them from injury.
Sometimes, no matter how well you can plan, coach, and cook, borrowing ideas from great people is the fastest way to success. The same can be said about borrowing ideas from other FM players who emulate the tactics and strategies of the greats.
The Steam Workshop for Football Manager 2017 is brimming with home-made custom tactics, all of which are "guaranteed success". Undoubtedly, as you play, you have formed your own tactics, however, I have chosen a couple as my favorites because of their versatility. These mods need to be tried to fully understand them, however I will introduce you to the author of each of them, starting with the creator of Barcelona TIKI TAKA Guardiola philosophy:
“I created this tactic based on the philosophy of Pep Guardiola of Barcelona and his players, it is a system that was successfully applied in 2009-2010. The Barcelona Tiki Taka is designed for everyone who prefers high level possession of the ball (more than 60%) who feel more comfortable with the ball in the opposition's half than in yours. I like it when my players patiently build up the pace of the game, passing short passes, holding the ball until there is enough space.”
The Jurgen Klopp’s 4-3-3 Gegenpress mod developed by CaptainCraigles is admittedly works best with the current Liverpool team, however it also adapts to other teams as well.
“Jurgen Klopp's 4-3-3 tactics are currently used by him at Liverpool. Use players who have high speed and determination. Think about the passes that need to be made to give the number 10 player a position in which to deliver his brilliant pass. Pressure allows you to play balls closer to the enemy goal. There is only one pass to a great opportunity. No striker in the world can be as good as good pressure. That's why it's so important."
Another tactic that works well is City Pep Guardiola (Control The World) 2017 by klash_man. Again, this tactic can be said to be in line with Manchester City's current style of play, but can also be highly adaptable.
Looking for the most *cough* realistic interpretation of today's behind-the-scenes football? Live the life of your idols, fuck the system, stop paying taxes. Be warned, though: this mod removes taxes everywhere, which means you're less likely to gain an advantage over the competition as a result of your not-so-legitimate actions. However, this allows you to worry less about the financial burden in the context of overall expenses.

Like the mod above, Contract View makes it easy to evaluate your team. A handy season stats tab also lets you see which players aren't up to the task they've been given.

How to install:
Find what skin you use by going into credits and on the top bar finding what is in the brackets (e.g. HVGA).
Select your file - 1080, HD (Retina/HDTV in credits) are mostly phones, WVGA are mini tablets and SD are lower screen spec phones (SD/HVGA), while 1080 are new for update 6.1(from FMM16) and show 1080 in credits (iPhone 6+, tablets, phablets).
Note for Android Users: Si puts HD for both 1080 & Retina so you cant tell which uses which. best way to find out is,
by using a file manager app, Navigate to Android/Data/com.sigames.fmh2017/files/installed/ to see if there is Retina/HDTV Skins or 1080 Skin.
For iOS-
Extract your file using 7Zip or a Mac equivalent. On iTunes in the top left next to the music, TV, etc... symbols click your device"s icon (the little iPhone/iPad) - This is on the latest iTunes version, it may differ on previous. Navigate to app > file sharing > FMM 2017 and drag and drop all club/comp logos in there (press CTRL/CMD + A to select all in the folder). Please don't drag the folders.
For Android-
Extract your file using: 7Zip or a Mac .zip extractor equivalent or ES FIle Explorer App, File Manager HD App, AndroZip App, ZArchiver App or any other fille manager apps. (i use AndroZip which i would Recommend)
Use AirDroid or a USB and drag them into Android/Data/com.sigames.fmh2017/files/installed/logos extract the zip here (or Logos_Android for WVGA/Logos_iPad for HD). Make sure you backup/remove clubs/comps/continents folders first.
*note* There are a lot of files, it can take a while to start and then to transfer, please give them time (especially on iTunes).
