The world's largest children's shopping complex has finally opened after a long restoration. Detsky Mir, built in 1957 by Soviet architect Alexei Dushkin, was the most famous children's store in the USSR. The products of all plants and factories in the field of children's clothing, shoes and toys were presented here. In 2008, the building was closed to the public due to the emergency condition of the supporting structures, and only in December 2014 the repair was completed.

The famous building on Lubyanka not only changed its name to "Central Children's Store", but also changed inside: new architectural solutions, one of the best viewing platforms on the center of Moscow, flagship stores, interactive zones with educational programs on each floor of the department store and much, much more .

Landmark, Monument of architecture, Shopping and entertainment center

During the restoration, first of all, they tried to preserve the uniqueness of the main trading floor. It was recreated according to the original architectural design of the architect Alexei Dushkin, even marble was brought for decoration from the Koelginskoye deposit - it was this type of stone that was used in the construction in 1957.

The central atrium has been preserved in its historical place, 8 unique bronze floor lamps have been restored and installed, more than 100 1957 balusters in the railings have been recreated. As for the changes, the space of the central atrium has increased by raising the dome from the 3rd to the 7th floor.

Now a stage has been equipped here, where children's events, parades of life-size puppets, performances are held daily, and every evening a three-dimensional light show is arranged for children, transforming the atrium into a “magic music box”. During the program, the whole wall is illuminated with the brightest colors of various subjects, the first of which are “History of Russia” and “Nature of Russia”.

The kindest museum of the capital has more than 1000 exhibits.

At the entrance to the museum, guests are greeted by a huge plush elephant, which was made for Detsky Mir on special order in the mid-80s. For several decades, he was part of the scenery of the store, moving his ears and standing on his hind legs. After closing for reconstruction, the baby elephant was given to a large family as a gift, and only after the collection of commemorative toys for the museum was announced, he returned here.

Other exhibits include Cheburashka and Gena the crocodile, dolls of all kinds, teddy bears, tumblers, a table railroad, Sea Battle and Driving games, soldiers, tanks, filmstrip projectors and much more. There is a sign next to each exhibit, which indicates the name, years and place of issue. To the delight of visitors, some toys can be picked up.

Every hour, the museum hosts a fascinating interactive show that tells the history of the store and children's products.

An open observation deck is located on the roof of the Central Children's Store on Lubyanka and, despite its novelty, has already become one of the most popular viewing platforms in Moscow. Unlike many other viewpoints offering to view the center of the capital from the outside, the observation deck of the Central House of Museum allows you to see it from a slightly different angle - from the inside.

A good view opens in the direction of the Kremlin and Red Square. It is not possible to see the Moscow fortress and its surroundings in full growth, since their lower part is obscured by roofs, but the view of the Kremlin towers (including Spasskaya) and the bell towers of the Kremlin cathedrals, towering above the roofs of other buildings, is impressive. The sensations are also enhanced by atypical neighbors that appeared near the historical center when viewed from this angle: for example, St. Basil's Cathedral (Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, on the Moat) and the Spasskaya Tower of the Kremlin are visible in conjunction with the Shukhov Tower on Shabolovka, the Grand Kremlin Palace and the Senate Palace got the building of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the background, the building of the Historical Museum stood on the same line with the Nikolskaya and Troitskaya towers of the Kremlin and, and the GUM and the Corner Arsenal tower surrounded the main building of Moscow State University on Sparrow Hills.

Also, the observation deck on the roof of the Central Children's Store allows you to see the Metropol and Moskva hotels, the high-rise of the Swissotel Krasnye Holmy hotel, many churches and bell towers and endless residential areas to the horizon.

At the service of visitors is a pair of viewing binoculars, however, practically inaccessible due to high attendance. The observation deck is available daily, from 10.00 to 22.00. The best time to visit is in the afternoon when the Sun is shining from behind.

Free admission.

It would never have occurred to me to write an article on how to get to the Central Children's World on Lubyanka, if not for the occasion.
I saw a confused woman at the Ploshchad Revolyutsii metro station. She carefully studied the exit board to the city. And she couldn't decide which way to go.
As a guide, I offered to help myself. The answer was hesitant:
- Yes, I need to go to Detsky Mir. I have not been in the center for so long, I forgot everything. I think which way is more convenient to go?
I showed the lady the right escalator, got up with her, indicated the further direction of movement and realized that others needed to be helped.

Without wasting more words, I present a map where different routes from different metro stations are marked. I drew how to go to Detsky Mir (indicated by a yellow rectangle, at the top, in the northeast) from the metro station “Revolution Square”. The Metropol Hotel (landmark) is also marked with a yellow rectangle.

Below are the routes to Detsky Mir from the Kuznetsky Most and Teatralnaya metro stations.

(I'll attach larger diagrams below)
I am also enclosing a detailed guide, because subway stations do not always have the cherished sign “to the Children's World”. In which direction to go - you still have to guess!

1. How to get to the central "Children's World" on Lubyanka from the metro station "Lubyanka"

This is the most convenient and closest station to Detsky Mir. You don’t have to go up the street, at Lubyanka they opened an exit to the zero level of the children’s store.

At the metro station "Lubyanka" we are looking for an exit sign to the city, on Lubyanskaya, Novaya Square. The last item on the scoreboard is lit by the inscription: to “ Central Children's Store.

Goes up the escalator. There the road splits into two branches. On the left there are signs:

You already guessed that you SHOULD NOT go here! Turning RIGHT and go to the right arm of the tunnel. It opened recently, so nothing is written on it!

The pointer will tell you where to go.

Here is the entrance to the "Children's World". By the way, the left door is also open. 🙂

2. How to get to the central "Children's World" on Lubyanka from the metro station "Kuznetsky Most"

It takes two minutes to walk from Kuznetsky Most to Detsky Mir. Be careful! Do not look for the sign in the usual place, at the top. At the Kuznetsky Most station, the exit sign hangs on the wall!

But here it is clearly indicated that to the "Children's Store" - to the right.
We go up the escalator. We go outside and immediately turn LEFT. You need to go through the arch under the house. She can be seen from afar.

As soon as you come out of the arch onto Pushechnaya Street, you will immediately see the building of the “Children's World”. In the picture on the left - the corner of the "Children's World".

Go straight, just be careful, there are a lot of cars! The entrance to the "Children's World" from the side of Rozhdestvenka Street, it can be seen in the next picture.

I am attaching the itinerary again. The path from the Teatralnaya metro station is also marked on it.

3. How to get to the central "Children's World" on Lubyanka from the metro station "Teatralnaya"

It is easy to walk from the Teatralnaya metro station to Detsky Mir. This path will take about 7 minutes. (If you find yourself on Okhotny Ryad, I don’t advise you to go out, it’s better to get to Lubyanka along the red line).

At the station "Teatralnaya" you need to follow the signs to Theater Square, Okhotny Ryad and B. Dmitrovka streets, to the Bolshoi and Maly theaters, etc. This is where you need to go.

We go up the escalator, then up the stairs.

At the end there are two exits to the city, you need to turn right, to Theater Square and the Bolshoi Theatre.

Another staircase.

And you are upstairs, went to the Theater Square. On the left is the building of the Bolshoi Theatre. You need to go straight.

Feel free to cross the road at the crossing, there is no traffic on the square.

We cross Petrovka Street at the ground crossing, waiting for the green traffic light.

We crossed Petrovka, in the distance you will notice the building of the "Children's World" - in the picture - the second from the left.

4. How to get to the central "Children's World" on Lubyanka from the metro station "Revolution Square"

From the "Revolution Square" the distance to the "Children's World" is the same as from the "Teatralnaya". You need to go out in the direction of Revolution Square, Red Square, Manezhnaya Square, the Metropol Hotel.

Climb up the escalator and immediately turn RIGHT. Before leaving the glass doors there is another sign.

At the top you will see the square, in the distance to the left - the building of the Bolshoi Theater. Right in front of you is the hotel building.

We are going to him.

Turn left at the corner and follow the front of the hotel.

In the recently opened Central Children's Store on Lubyanka, you can get to the observation deck, which offers wonderful views of the historical center of Moscow. And you can do it absolutely free.

As soon as the Central Children's Store on Lubyanka opened, of course, we went to see what happened after such a long reconstruction. We thoroughly prepared for the visit - we printed out the guidebook and highlighted what exactly we want to visit. One of the attractions of the Children's Store is the observation deck on the 7th floor. We started there and went.

How to find the observation deck in the Central Children's Store on Lubyanka:

m. Kuznetsky most / Lubyanka. address Teatralny proezd house 5 (Central Children's Store on Lubyanka). 7th floor.

You need to take the elevator up to the 6th floor, then go around all the catering points (almost all the cafes are located exactly on the 6th level). Next - we head to the large atrium, go around it. Next to the atrium there will be a small door and a staircase that leads to the Museum of Childhood (review of the museum) and an observation deck. We go in the door, we rise a little more, and now - Moscow is in front of us, in full view.

Door to the observation deck.

In fact, there are two viewing platforms at the top, and they are connected by a long passage: on the one hand, we have a view of the Lubyanka building, the Polytechnic Museum, and on the other, we can see the Kremlin.

If you go all the way to the right, you can see a huge logo mounted on the roof. For security reasons, keep him closed.

Those who are afraid of heights have nothing to fear - a rather high glass rim is installed around the entire perimeter. It is worth noting that it is made correctly, because it does not interfere with taking pictures.

There were a lot of people on the day when we visited the observation deck: there were also many photographers with tripods trying to capture Moscow.

Here are two observation decks connected by such a transition.

For the curious, telescopic tubes are installed on the observation deck so that you can see the old buildings properly.

Night Moscow is Beautiful!

In general, this is a wonderful place, I think in the summer it will not be overcrowded. A visit to the observation deck on the roof is a great reason to stop by the Central Children's Store.

Children's World on Lubyanskaya Square in Moscow is a whole era, a whole history and a part of every Muscovite whose childhood was spent in the capital.

The building was built in 1957 in the very center of Moscow and at that time was considered the largest children's store in the USSR.

After restoration work, only the shape of the building remained from the former building, while the perimeter and external design of the walls were changed. The internal elements of the architecture have also undergone a change.

Today, Detsky Mir on Lubyanka is a popular place where both tourists from different parts of the country and local residents like to spend time. The interior of the building deserves special attention. In the main atrium, unique bronze floor lamps were recreated, as well as stairs and railings made of marble were restored.

On the walls you can see many paintings - they all convey illustrations from children's fairy tales. One of the sights of Detsky Mir is the monumental Raketa clock, the largest mechanical clock in the world.

Address: Moscow, Teatralny proezd, 5/1.
