Rating of compact cameras in terms of image quality. The best SLR cameras. The best connected camera

24.02.2022

Selection principle

To begin with, it is necessary to describe by what criteria I chose these cameras. There are only three of them:

  • Size and weight. The camera can be carried in the pocket of any men's clothing.
  • The technical ability of the camera to take photos of decent quality. Including thanks to the possibility of manual control of photography.
  • The model was released in 2013 or 2014.

Why such requirements?

The simplified portability of the camera allows you to take it with you at least every day. And this allows you to take a photo at any time, anywhere - as soon as a good story has appeared. I determined the minimum thickness for cameras at 3 cm (plus or minus 2-3 mm). The minimum width-height is 10 by 6 cm (again, a little plus or minus). I determined the minimum weight for cameras at 200 grams (plus or minus 10-20 grams). These characteristics are not sucked out of the finger. These are the dimensions and weights of the smallest premium cameras currently on the market. Today, everything that is thinner than 3 centimeters and lighter than 200 grams is already just a soap dish.

A camera that is always with you.

With the quality of the image, I think it's clear. What's the point of catching a good shot if the output will be dull shit anyway? So, I determined the minimum sensor size at 1 / 1.7 "(crop factor 4.5). I also discarded superzooms, since the optics there are already completely dark. And besides the sensor size, in addition to the quality of the optics, another requirement is the ability to manually control shooting and the ability to shoot in RAW format.

Cameras - in 2014

There are few of them. Just four to be exact:

  • Canon S120
  • Fijifilm XQ1
  • Panasonic DMC-LF1
  • Nikon P340

In terms of characteristics, photo quality and technical capabilities, they are all almost the same. Most likely it will not even be possible to determine which of these cameras a picture was taken if such pictures are taken under the same conditions. However, each of these cameras has its own peculiarities.

Canon S120

The most expensive of the four. In our city, the difference in price between the Canon S120 and Nikon P340 is almost $100. And the same for the country as a whole. It differs from the rest by the presence of a touchscreen. You can point the focus point directly with your finger on the screen and even take a picture. One touch and immediately focus, snapshot.

On dxomark.com, he was given a score of 56.

Fijifilm XQ1

Second in price after the Canon S120. It differs in matrix - it has a larger size (crop factor 4) and it uses not the so-called "Bayer" color filter layout. Proprietary Fijifilm X-trans CMOS sensor. In theory, this sensor should give better image quality compared to a conventional 1/1.7" BSI CMOS with a "Bayer" color filter. In practice, this is not a fact. At least I looked through a lot of test shots from all these four cameras (in There are such pictures on the Internet) and did not notice the difference.

This matrix, and accordingly the camera, has one more feature - hybrid autofocus, contrast and phase. Which in theory should speed up focusing. But in practice, according to those sites where such measurements are taken, there is no tangible difference with the other three cameras.

The Fijifilm XQ1 has another feature - its lens rapidly "darkens" with increasing focal length. Already at 35 mm EGF it is f / 3.6. Despite the fact that at the long end of the zoom it has only 100 mm EGF.

It is not rated on dxomark.com - it has not been tested yet.

Panasonic DMC-LF1

Its features:

  • The longest zoom is 200 mm EGF. Despite the fact that at the long end it is not so dark, only f5.9. On the EGF up to 100 mm, the aperture drop occurs more evenly than on the XQ1, for example, at 35 mm it has f2.4.
  • Electronic viewfinder. Very modest, but he is.

Third in value - close to the Fijifilm XQ1.

On dxomark.com, he was given a score of 52.

Nikon P340

The cheapest of the four. However, the most technically "fancy" in terms of convenience and quality of shooting.

  • There is an additional mechanical (fourth) control dial. The rest have three discs.
  • There is a manual conversion from RAW to JPG right in the camera, which allows you to always take pictures only in RAW. And if you need a JPG and you don’t have a computer with the right program at hand, then you can make a JPG in the camera itself.
  • There is even time-lapse photography. We put a fotik, set it up and it takes pictures itself, after a specified period of time.
  • There is a rubber grip on the front panel. The other three cameras have a smooth front panel. It is easier to hold with one hand.

The lens is quite light - at 24mm f1.8, 35mm: f2.5, 50mm: f3.2, 85mm: f4.5, 120mm f5.6.

On dxomark.com, he was given a score of 54. Nikon P340 camera review.

Summary

Of course, none of these cameras will replace a DSLR or mirrorless - with a large sensor, with a good lens. But all four have a serious advantage - these are cameras that can always be with you. And on any of these cameras you can take a photo for which you will not be ashamed. I mean the technical quality of the photo. And the choice of a plot for which one will not be ashamed - this does not depend on the camera.

It seems to me that out of this four, the main choice is between Panasonic DMC-LF1 and Nikon P340. Canon falls away in price - is it worth paying so much for just a touch screen? Fujik is the "shortest" and "darkest" lens.

P.S.

Anticipating amendments like "but there is still ...".

I did not include the Sony RX 100 in this group for several reasons:

  • She's fatter.
  • It is heavier - models II and III generally under 300 grams.
  • It is much more expensive, even the first model is noticeably more expensive than the Canon S120, and the second and third are generally a horse price.

Although there is a sensor with a crop factor of 2.7 and 20 megapixels. But I think there are few who want to pay about $ 1,000 for a pocket camera for every day.

I also didn't include the Leica C. The reason is even shorter - it's the DMC-LF1 at twice the price.

In 2014, there were big changes in the photography industry. In general, the year was stable, but not without interesting discoveries. The market has seen a drop in sales of compact cameras due to the development of photomodules in smartphones. For example, Panasonic recently announced the first smartphone with an inch matrix DMC-CM1 (). However, the market for more advanced camera models is growing.

DSLR leaders such as DSLR have updated some of their most popular models. Mirrorless cameras continue to evolve and have already pushed some DSLR models ahead of them in all respects.

For professionals and those who are just about to master photography, now is a great time to buy a new camera. And to make a choice, we suggest you take a look at our list of "The Best Cameras of 2014-2015"

The best waterproof camera of 2014. Olympus Tough TG-3

It is one of the latest rugged cameras from Olympus. The model differs in the durability and endurance during the work in extreme conditions. The camera is equipped with a matrix with a resolution of 16 megapixels, a back-illuminated CMOS sensor is used. In terms of optical performance, the Olympus Tough TG-3 is equipped with a lens with a focal length of 25-100mm and an aperture of F / 2-4.9 lenses. A sufficiently large aperture allows you to shoot even in difficult lighting conditions, without the need to increase the ISO sensitivity.

In terms of the physical capabilities of the camera, the Olympus Tough TG-3 is able to withstand immersion to a depth of 15 m, a drop from a height of 2.1 meters and cold to -10 ° C. Macro is available at a distance of 1 cm. Burst speed can be up to 5 frames per second.

The GPS in the camera is designed in such a way that it can track your location and serve as a compass, depth and pressure indicator. Images can be transferred using the built-in Wi-Fi, and the camera itself can be controlled using a smartphone.

Specially for the Olympus Tough TG-3, a collection of accessories has been developed, including a fisheye adapter, a teleconverter, special straps and a special box that allows you to dive up to 45 meters. The Olympus Tough TG-3 is priced at around $350.

The best waterproof camera of 2014. Canon PowerShot D30

At first glance, the Canon PowerShot D30 is no different from an ordinary soap dish, but in fact, this small camera is able to withstand extremely difficult shooting conditions. The Powershot D30 can dive up to 25m, which is much deeper than its competitors. The camera sensor has a resolution of 12 megapixels, which is slightly less than other durable cameras in the review. As for the lens, its focal length is 28-140mm and the aperture is F/3.9-4.8. The display of the soap dish has a diagonal of 3 inches and a resolution of 461 thousand dots.

Underwater cameras are often difficult to use in bright environments due to the intense sun rays hitting the display and obscuring visibility. To eliminate this problem, Canon has introduced a special Sunlight LCD mode, which makes it easier to work with the screen.

The Canon PowerShot D30 can withstand a drop from a height of 2 meters, exposure to cold and heat from -10 ° to 40 ° C. The camera has a GPS system that allows you to fix the shooting location.

Travel photographers may be disappointed by the very limited 24p HD video capabilities and lack of Wi-Fi connectivity. In addition, there is no active control over shooting parameters, so users will have to work with automatic presets. The Canon PowerShot D30 is priced at around $300.

The best waterproof camera of 2014. Nikon Coolpix AW120

Waterproof camera Nikon Coolpix AW120 is equipped with the widest lens compared to other cameras in the review, the distance range covers 24-120mm, and aperture is F / 2.8-4.9. The camera is capable of recording video at 1080/60i resolution. The camera sensor has a resolution of 16 megapixels.

Nikon Coolpix AW120 is capable of diving to a depth of 18 meters, is able to maintain performance when dropped from a height of up to two meters. As for frost resistance, the camera is able to keep working at ambient temperatures down to -10 ° C. In addition, the Nikon Coolpix AW120 offers a large number of interesting filters and effects that make working with the camera fun.

Among the negative features of the model are too small buttons located close to each other. When shooting underwater or in cold weather, this makes it very difficult and slow to operate the camera. The Nikon Coolpix AW120 is priced at around $290-300.

The best waterproof camera of 2014. Ricoh WG-4 GPS

One of the best rugged cameras of 2014 is also considered. The model has an original stylish design that distinguishes it from competitors, and good technical capabilities for a very reasonable price.

The Ricoh WG-4 GPS is equipped with a lens with a focal length of 25-100mm. Its aperture is F / 2-4.9, which is considered a very good indicator, allowing you to work in relatively difficult shooting conditions. The camera can be submerged to a depth of 15 m, it can withstand severe cold and a fall from a height of up to 2 meters. The camera has several modes designed for comfortable shooting in bright light. Macro photography is possible from a minimum distance of 1 cm from the front of the lens.

As for the quality of photos in the Ricoh WG-4 GPS, in general, it is quite good. Pictures are sharp with no chromatic aberrations. For some, wireless Wi-Fi connectivity may be lacking and autofocus may seem slow. There is a small LCD on the front of the camera that shows time, depth/altitude and pressure even when the camera is off, which is especially useful when working underwater. The Ricoh WG-4 GPS will be priced at $270.

Traditional for ZOOM.CNews, we decided to publish the final material on the photo industry this year in December. Throughout the year, our site has released enough analytical articles, and first glances, and camera reviews so as not to be repeated once again with a special text about trends developing on the market, but to summarize everything in an article in the usual “Choice” format.

Best cameras of 2014: ZOOM picks

Before proceeding to the direct presentation of the best cameras of 2014, we will briefly outline the situation on the market that has developed over almost 12 months and talk about the principles for forming the list of winners.

Results in numbers

2014 was the time for the next Photokina exhibition. A world-class event that gathers all the professionals of the photo-film industry in Leipzig, Germany, in even-numbered years. This time Photokina was marked by the appearance of new high-end SLRs and premium compacts. Actually, the market entry of just such models formed the main trends of 2014.

In general, from January to December in 2014, 102 cameras of various classes were produced. Naturally, most of them belong to compact models of amateur level. Among the manufacturers in 2014, Nikon was in the lead with 18 new devices, Sony, on account of which 17 new products, and Canon, which enriched the market with 16 models.

Results in words

When choosing the best cameras of 2014, we tried to divide the applicants into nomination groups, taking into account their class. Considering the current state of progress in the photography industry, our experts felt it was inappropriate to choose the best among compact universal devices. It was also considered inappropriate to divide the mirrorless and mirror class models into subgroups.

Thus, we formed five nominations, in each of which two to three contenders competed for the right to be called the best: rugged cameras, ultrazooms, SLR cameras, mirrorless system cameras, premium compacts.

Best rugged camera

Among the rugged compact cameras released in 2014, two models stand out. These are Olympus Tough TG-3 and Nikon Coolpix AW120. Both devices successfully combine photographic capabilities that are quite good by the standards of their class and a solid margin of resistance to various adverse environmental factors. At the same time, the cameras are quite different from each other in many technical details, which makes the choice between them not so easy.

So, Nikon Coolpix AW120 has an information display with noticeably better detail, it has a wider range of focal lengths of optics, a faster burst mode, smaller dimensions and a more efficient battery.

In turn, the case of the Olympus Tough TG-3 is better protected and can withstand a fall from 2 meters and an impact of 1000 Newtons. The optics of the device is not so versatile in terms of focal ranges, but its aperture ratio is larger at the wide end. In addition to fully automatic shooting modes, the Olympus Tough TG-3 allows you to work in aperture priority. The Olympus Tough TG-3 has an HDMI port and a fully functional Wi-Fi module that allows, among other things, to control the camera using a smartphone.

As for the quality of the pictures, then we should not forget that both the Nikon Coolpix AW120 and the Olympus Tough TG-3 are essentially ordinary compact cameras with a modest-sized matrix. The matrix resolution is the same - 16 megapixels. A slightly better picture of the Olympus Tough TG-3 is made by BSI backlight technology, which Nikon engineers decided not to use in their model for some reason.

It is the latter fact that persuades our experts to give the victory to the Olympus Tough TG-3 in the Best Rugged Camera of 2014 nomination.

The best "ultrasound"

The terms "megazoom", "hyperzoom" and "ultrasound" in the digital camera market have never been formalized in any way and the choice between them was made intuitively and based on the personal preferences of the writer. However, in general, it was always clear to everyone that we are talking about devices whose focal lengths of optics have some impressive magnification, and in the “tele” position, the lens overcomes the mark of 300-400 millimeters of EGF. It was the ability of the model to ensure the shooting of a frame at 400 mm EGF that became the criterion for choosing cameras for this nomination for our experts.

As a result of the selection, three cameras were named the leaders of 2014 among the “ultrasounds”: Canon PowerShot SX60 HS, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000, Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX350. It is simply impossible to name the best of them by line-by-line comparison of characteristics - despite the fact that the devices belong to the same class, their functionality and strengths are strikingly different.

Canon PowerShot SX60 HS is the leader of modern cameras in terms of zoom ratio. Its optics covers a segment from 21 to 1365 millimeters of EGF. The device has a classic "pseudo-mirror" design and excellent ergonomics. All manual shooting settings are available, it is possible to record frames in RAW format. The design of the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS includes a folding information display with three degrees of freedom, an electronic viewfinder with good detail and a connector for connecting an external flash.

The main advantage of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 is a large 1 '' matrix by the standards of the "ultrasound" class. It allows the device to form a strong image quality. A good addition to the sensor is optics with a moderate range of focal lengths for "ultrasounds" and a relatively high aperture (F / 2.8 at the "wide" end). Like the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 is ergonomically designed with a flip-out display, electronic viewfinder and external flash socket. For fans of video shooting, it will be interesting to know that the camera allows you to record videos in Ultra-HD format at 30 frames per second.

The third contender - the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX350 - doesn't stand out in any way from ordinary digital compacts. The model has a small matrix, photography functions are limited to automatic modes, there is no possibility of recording material in RAW. However, the uniqueness of the device lies in the fact that despite the modest dimensions typical of "thin-profile" digital compacts, it is a full-fledged "ultrasound" with a range of focal lengths from 25 to 500 millimeters EGF. The manufacturer rightly claims that at the moment there is no more compact and light “ultrasound” on the market.

Noting a significant difference in the key characteristics of the applicants, our experts decided not to single out anyone in the Best Ultrasound of 2014 nomination. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS, Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX350, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 equally worthy represent their class, showing three completely different ways of its evolution.

Best DSLR

As mentioned above, in 2014, Nikon takes the first place in terms of the number of announcements and releases with 18 devices. Among these 18 chambers, four are mirrored.

For the second year in a row, Nikon has been holding a high rate of renewal of its line of SLR models, again overtaking its rival Canon in this. However, the announcements of 2014 look much more significant - after all, over the past almost 12 months, Nikon has released three new SLR cameras with a full-frame matrix. It is these three, in principle, that can be considered as the main contenders for the title of the best SLR camera. However, bearing in mind some "secondary" devices Nikon D4s and Nikon D810, Nikon D750 should be considered the most worthy of this title.

In 2014, poor in the announcements of SLR cameras, only the long-awaited EOS 7D Mark II from Canon looks like a worthy competitor. This model, which develops the ideas of the flagship of non-full-frame “DSLRs” of 2009, has been waiting for a whole five-year period. During this time, Canon has enriched itself with a host of new technologies and design ideas, which are embodied in the novelty.

The most notable recent innovation in the Canon EOS 7D Mark II is Dual-Pixel AF. It allows you to use full-fledged phase focusing across the entire field of the frame in live view and video modes. In addition to Dual-Pixel AF, the novelty attracts attention with high burst shooting speed, a very capacious clipboard, two memory card slots in two formats, and excellent ergonomics.

Unlike the “overripe” Canon EOS 7D Mark II from popular expectations, the Nikon D750 came as a surprise. No one thought that the manufacturer would decide to segment the line of its full-frame SLR cameras so fractionally. Indeed, today Nikon DSLRs are arranged in a unique hierarchy, with an APS-C sensor in three of them, and a 24x36mm sensor in five!

And Nikon D750 is the "golden mean" of this five. Being in the line between the “small flagship” Nikon D810 and the “budget full frame” Nikon D610, the camera combines the main functions of an expensive model and the secondary options of a “cheap” one that correctly affect its cost.

Such a careful teamwork of engineers and marketers simply could not fail to attract the attention of our experts, who recognized the Nikon D750 as the best SLR camera of 2014. Of course, Dual-Pixel AF in the Canon EOS 7D Mark II is a very important demonstration of progress. However, the Nikon D750 also has a unique feature - the device was the first full-frame SLR system with a rotary information display. Surprisingly, but a fact: a convenient and obvious option came to professional photographic equipment only in 2014.

The best mirrorless camera

The market for mirrorless system cameras, which has gained popularity among amateur photographers in recent years, continues to show an upward trend in growth. Of course, the "flagship" mirrorless cameras that have appeared in a lot of them cannot yet fully compete with the flagship SLR devices, but they are already able to shake the positions of lower-class models quite thoroughly.

All three contenders for the title of the best mirrorless camera belong to the top segment: the Fujifilm X-T1 is the flagship in the line of its manufacturer, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 is a “folk” (simplified and less expensive) version of the flagship E-M1, and Sony Alpha 7S uses a full-frame sensor - which makes it a "premium" solution a priori.

With all the apparent obviousness, the choice between the Olympus OM-D E-M10 and Fujifilm X-T1 is not so simple. Both devices have very similar dimensions and use a retro design with an abundance of mechanical controls and excellent ergonomics. None of the cameras has an overwhelming advantage in terms of functionality. Yes, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 has an image stabilizer built in. But the electronic viewfinder Fujifilm X-T1 has twice the resolution.

The main thing in which the applicants disagree is the size of the matrix and the price. For a solid $1,000, the Fujifilm X-T1 offers an APS-C sensor with CMOS X-Trans II technology and compatibility with a small but robust fleet of X-Mount optics. The size of the Olympus OM-D E-M10 sensor is 4/3’’, and its fleet of optics is more extensive and more diverse in price. The cost of the camera itself is $500.

Sony Alpha 7S to fight under the banner of "better and more expensive" and "cheaper, but almost as good" is somewhat detached. The camera has one big (in the literal sense of the word) advantage, which has already been mentioned - a full-frame matrix. What makes it even more significant is the unique quality of the sensor - a modest detail of 12 megapixels. The combination, long forgotten by the market, gives rise to the presence of huge sensels in the Sony Alpha 7S, which are perfect for forming the widest dynamic range in the photo, special “plasticity” of the picture and an extremely excellent signal-to-noise ratio.

It was the subtle technical move of the Sony Alpha 7S developers, albeit useful in practice for a small proportion of photographers, that endeared our experts to this camera. However, awarding the device with the title of the best at the end of the year, they note that the “lag” of Olympus OM-D E-M10 and Fujifilm X-T1 is purely nominal and rather subjective.

Best Premium Compact

The Old Testament story about how “DSLRs gave birth to mirrorless cameras, and mirrorless cameras gave birth to premium compacts” is good only in a society completely devoid of memory. Modern premium compacts are certainly descendants of the so-called "prosumer" class - devices with fixed lenses, large sensors and well-developed ergonomic controls, which in the early 2000s were considered quite successful competitors to entry-level SLR cameras.

Today, entry-level SLRs have been successfully pushed aside by mirrorless cameras. Premium compacts compete with the latter. Judging by the surge in the activity of manufacturers in this market, if not successfully, then with clear hopes for success.

The differences between premium compacts and “prosumers” ten years ago can be easily explained precisely by the change of the enemy. Plus significant progress. The production of matrices has become cheaper, and computer modeling of optics has improved its characteristics.

To be a worthy alternative to today's mirrorless cameras, premium compacts must combine optics with performance levels at the level of the best universal lenses, a sensor comparable in size to mirrorless, a miniature size, convenient operation, fast autofocus (preferably hybrid) and well-developed smartphone integration options. In 2014, two models had these features in full measure: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 and Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III.

Choosing the best between these cameras is very difficult. The comparison can be carried out literally in line-by-line mode - all the same, the scales of doubt will lean one way or the other.

Both Sony and Panasonic are solid firms that have been successfully present in the photo market in the mirrorless sector for a long time. Therefore, there is no possibility to give preference to some brand based on reputational capital.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 is preferable in terms of matrix size. She has more apparatus. But the sensor resolution is higher for the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III. With active use of framing, this can be important.

The devices are very similar in optical characteristics: the advantage of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 is minimal to the point of indistinguishability.

The focusing of the cameras in both cases is based on the contrast principle, but the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 has more focus points, and almost twice.

An interesting thing is happening with the information display and viewfinder of competitors. The screen is the same size, but the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III has a flip-down one and better detail. On the other hand, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 has more detail in the electronic viewfinder - and again, almost twice.

The approach to completing models with flashes is different for Sony and Panasonic engineers. The first manufacturer endowed his device with a built-in accessory, but decided not to install a connector for an external model on the case. Panasonic did exactly the opposite - the Lumix DMC-LX100 does not have a built-in flash, but the connector is present. As, by the way, the flash itself, which comes with the kit.

In terms of ergonomics and design, both devices are worthy of each other, however, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III is noticeably smaller, and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 is more “grasping”.

As for the cost. The official prices for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 and Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III are $900 and $800 respectively. However, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III has been on the Russian market for quite a long time, which allows the camera to lie in warehouses at the prices of the "summer" exchange rate. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100, as a novelty, does not have such an advantage - therefore, the ruble prices for the camera against the background of the prices for the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III sometimes look frankly defiant.

It is the noticeably (at least until the New Year) lower cost of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III, with image quality similar to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 and comparable functionality, that allows our experts to call this particular model the Best Premium Compact 2014.

Nikon's retro DSLR turned out to be good not only for its appearance, which attracts at first sight, but also for its characteristics. Designed exclusively for photography (video is simply not supported), it shines with a 16-megapixel full-frame sensor, like on the Nikon D4, and the corresponding shooting quality, which is especially evident at high ISO. This is accompanied by a high price, but for such a thing it is justified.

Seemingly a bit redundant at first in the saturated Fujifilm X-series lineup, the X-T1 turned out to be Fujifilm's most versatile mirrorless camera, a combination of qualities that make you fall in love with yourself. Brand image quality (sensor without a low-pass filter, unique colors) is multiplied here by good control solutions, a well-placed viewfinder and a dust-waterproof housing. Great camera for changing from a DSLR to a mirrorless system. My favorite for this year.

The junior camera of the Olympus OM-D line is more compact and simple than last year's excellent flagship E-M1, but it has adopted the main advantages: a high-quality sensor, fast operation, excellent design, combined with ease of operation, a built-in viewfinder and, of course, an incomparable matrix stabilizer. And an abundance of optics for Micro Four Thirds. For the combination of price and quality, this is just a great option for an enthusiastic photographer.

Regular update of Panasonic's flagship mirrorless camera, sharpened primarily for video shooting. Its most important and, in fact, the only significant innovation was the full support for recording video in UHD resolution and FullHD with a bit rate of 200 Mbps. Combined with the model's proprietary videographer versatility (all the right interfaces, good controls, flexible settings), the GH4 becomes the default choice for capturing high-definition content. The price, if we consider it as an ordinary camera, is quite high, but a video camera with similar characteristics for the money that is asked for the GH4 cannot be found.

Tiny and sleek mirrorless with a 1" sensor, the second system in Samsung's mirrorless realm. It is good for its compactness, very nice design and low price. For its money, it will provide shooting quality comparable to compacts such as the Sony RX100 III or Fujifilm X30 - with some discount on optics.

A very successful update of the Sony NEX-6 model, brilliant work on the bugs. A new, really fast autofocus, almost completely fixed the family flaws of the NEX controls, an NFC module has been added, the matrix has been updated. Some specifics remain (in particular, the grip or that “almost” in control), but even so, the camera that has many fans has become much better and can rightly be considered one of the best mirrorless cameras on the market.

Elite Leica cameras will never break sales records, but they will always attract attention. None of the cameras that have been in my hands for a year have caused as much excitement among others as the new Leica T mirrorless camera. The beautiful body from a single piece of polished aluminum and a red circle do their job. At the same time, the camera shoots very well; when it comes to Leica optics, you don’t have to worry about the quality of the pictures. Separately, it is worth noting the original control scheme, closed on the touch screen - I would not say that this is the most convenient, but interesting.

This year, the seemingly dying class of “prosumers” has revived - extremely versatile cameras with non-replaceable lenses for all occasions. Sony RX10 and Panasonic FZ1000 superzooms, equipped with the same sensor (1-inch 20.1 megapixels), entered into a direct battle with each other - and each has its own trump cards. Sony has fixed aperture optics (f/2.8 at 8.3x zoom) and a better-made body. On the Panasonic side: a more versatile lens (16x zoom at f / 2.8-4.0), a more attractive price and 4K video shooting. The situation is not easy, but I will dare to raise Panasonic's hand in this ring.

An upgrade to Nikon's incredible 36.3-megapixel full-frame DSLR that fixes many of the D800's ills. The result is a camera that is very close to ideal: with incredible image detail (the sensor is also devoid of a low-pass filter), a minimum ISO of 64, a new processor that allows you to work with the image faster. Add to this a new screen, an improved live view mode, noticeable improvements in video (60p, stereo microphone, continuous autofocus operation) and RAW (S) mode. The camera has become noticeably more versatile, moving away from the image of a studio camera in the first place.
